70% of Malaysia’s education system will focus
on vocational education and 30% on academic, under plans currently
being developed by the Malaysian Education Ministry. Currently 55%
of state resources are directed towards academic education, while
45% goes to vocational education, says deputy education minister Dr
Mohd Puad Zarkashi. Dr. Zarkashi is keen to see a shift that would
enable Malaysia to turn out more highly qualified vocational
graduates with a higher earning potential. The plans, which will be
finalised at the Government’s next cabinet meeting, involve
revamping 62 old technical schools into updated vocational
schools.
