State-private sector partnership to build ten new
training centres [India]

A partnership between private sector companies
and local Government in India’s northeastern state of Assam is to
set up ten new industrial training institutes. Under the joint
venture, the Government will provide around US$320,000, which would
be matched by private investors, to build the new centres in areas
not covered by the state’s existing 30 training institutes. ‘The
scheme will go a long way in opening up vocational training
facilities in the oil sector, for marine technicians, in
agriculture, information technology, retail, banking and insurance,
private security and others,’ said a Government official.
