CSD prepared two styles of papers for
Edge. 24 hour briefings were prepared and delivered by CSD
within 24 hours of receiving the request from Edge. These
briefings would allow Edge to respond very quickly and add their
reflections to debates in the media or policy circles. CSD
also supplied tailored briefings to Edge. Tailored briefings
were developed over a long time period of time and generally went
into more depth on an area in vocational education and
training. The tailored briefings helped to provide Edge with
the information they required to develop a longer term campaign or
strategy for its work programme.
For both styles of briefings, CSD provided well researched
information, statistics and historical data that would give Edge
the evidence base to make public policy positions and develop their
own work streams. Briefings were delivered on a range of
themes, including an analysis of the number of young people in
training, higher level qualifications, practical learning
initiatives and a comparison of the four UK nations policy
initiatives in vocational education and training.
