Lack of guidance and counselling in technical and
vocational education [Nigeria]
Nigeria’s National Board for Technical
Education has acknowledged the shortage of guidance and counselling
experts in the country’s education system. Speaking at a workshop
for guidance and counselling, organised in collaboration with
UNESCO, the board’s executive secretary Dr. Naru Yakubu stressed
the importance of counselling in helping students make informed
decisions on their future training and career paths. Yakubu also
expressed hope that the thirteen NBTE-UNESCO Staff Development
Centres established across the country would ‘play a crucial role’
in building on the nine thousand vocational education and
training staff trained since 2001.
