THE MOBILE WORKFORCE: FROM INDIA TO CANADA
THE MOBILE WORKFORCE: FROM
INDIA TO CANADA
The City & Guilds Centre for Skills
Development (CSD) is delighted to invite you to its seminar events
at WorldSkills Calgary 2009, part of the Global Skills Market place
seminar programme. On Monday 2nd September, CSD
will hold two seminars entitled: THE MOBILE WORKFORCE: FROM
INDIA TO CANADA.
While the free movement of capital, goods
and services is accepted internationally as a positive phenomenon,
the concept of international labour mobility remains controversial.
Countries need highly skilled individuals and entrepreneurs in
order to compete economically and government policies are
increasingly recognising the value of migration. There are,
however, stark differences in how countries from around the world
support and encourage migration.
CSD has invited two eminent speakers,
The Honourable Hector Goudreau, Minister of Employment and
Immigration for the Province of Alberta, and
Professor Binod Khadria, Director of International
Migration and Diaspora Studies for the Ministry of Overseas Indian
Affairs, Government of India, to explore how labour
migration is being used to plug skills gaps and shortages in the
oilfields of Alberta and how, at the other end of the spectrum in
the sub continent of India, policymakers and individuals are
responding to this demand by training locals so that they can
emigrate to Canada.
There will be two opportunities to attend
this event:
Seminar 1 will run between
9.00 am -10.15 am
Seminar 2 will run between
10.40 am – 12.00 noon.
The event will be held at the Stephen Room,
Calgary Hyatt, 700 Centre Street SE, Calgary, Alberta T2G 5P6,
Canada. Please note that places are limited.
