Western Australia to overhaul training laws

In an effort to create a single, modern system
for apprenticeships and traineeships, Western Australia is
introducing sweeping reforms to its vocational education
legislation. The reforms come after a period of unprecedented
economic growth and industrial change in the State. Education and
Training Minister Mark McGowan said the new legislation would
significantly improve current laws and pave the way for a more
flexible training system which was better able to address skill
shortages. The new system also aims to provide more protection for
trainees and apprentices against, for instance, the unfair
termination of training contracts.
